About Sarah
(she/her/hers)
I view seeking counselling as an act of courage and an individual’s opportunity for personal growth. I believe those seeking counselling are the experts of their own lives and I act as a neutral third party without judgment to be a sounding board or a cheerleader. Together we can put the puzzle pieces together to make sense of questions and move forward. My practice is guided by client-centred therapy and my approach uses a variety of modalities, including behavioural and cognitive-behavioural therapies, as well as solution-focused, humanistic, and feminist therapies for more of an eclectic stance. As a life coach, many of the values and ideals I have developed come from my practice as a counsellor, along with my behavioural background and the co-active coaching model.
Throughout the past 15 years I have worked in a variety of settings, including public schools, acute rehabilitation facilities, mental health outpatient care, as well as public administration within both provincial and federal governments. I have also worked in a variety of counselling settings, including eating disorders and addictions, employment and career counselling, intimate partner violence, and workplace and occupational stress. I hold a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Behavioural Psychology from St. Lawrence College. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and a Canadian Certified Counsellor.
These settings have allowed me countless opportunities to organize events, design programming and educational workshops on mental health, as well as develop engaging presentations through speaking events. It has also allowed me to contribute to the field through research in areas such as concurrent eating disorders and addiction, apprenticeship retention, workplace wellness in high-stress/traumatic environments, and post-secondary mental health.
